History

Up to the late nineties, stationary dressing tools were manufactured essentially using monocrystalline diamonds or PCD materials. Starting from the idea of substituting PCD material with CVD diamond thick films, the first CVD dressing tools were developed at that time. Until then, “CVD-DIA” material, as it was called in in-house jargon, had actually been mainly used in high-performance turning tools. First tests directly comparing the material to PCD very soon revealed its enormous performance potentials. The tool lives of PCD dressing tools, which had been sufficient in the past, were significantly reduced by the increasing use of SIC and sintered alumina wheels. Following rigorous optimisations, tests and selection of a special “CVD-DIA” thick film, we are now able to offer tools with acceptable and reproducible tool lives meeting even these highly abrasive dressing requirements. And even on older grinders, retrofitting is easily achieved thanks to special adapter systems. In line with our company philosophy, we have developed over recent years a versatile, modular dressing system affording our customers the highest possible performance in the dressing process at hand.

Upgrading

Upgrade your facility within minutes from the existing PCD triangular system to the CVD Triangle Dresser. Owing to compatible overall dimensions, only the plates need to be exchanged. The holder systems on the machine can remain in use. The dressing parameters are retained as a basis. The article numbers of standard variants are listed below. We offer any radius between 0.050 and 0.500 mm.

Retrofitting

Retrofitting existing dressing concepts into CVD Triangle Dressers is a further option. Preferably, this new concept replaces single-point diamond dressers used on internal grinders. The following standard adapter systems are available for this purpose: MK1, MK1 stub (Studer), MK0 and D = 10 mm cylindrical. Custom holders can be offered on request.

Reproducibility

The CVD diamond thick film is 99.98% diamond, without any bonding matrix. This is a decisive advantage over the PCD material conventionally used so far. With CVD-DIA, you can always be sure to have a continuous diamond structure on the radius. Weak points due to the bonding matrix, such as cobalt, typical of PCD, can no longer occur. Radii precision-ground to tolerances of +- 0.02 mm add to the benefits of this innovative material. This is what makes CVD Triangle Dressers highly reproducible from radius to radius, from one tool to the next.
